Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F and F2nd (PSvita)

Decided to put these two together since besides the song lists and other small details, what I have to say applies to both games.
I had been anticipating the moment I'd be able to play these games ever since I heard that this series sorta died after X and that FT and MM are basically arcade ports rather than actual games made for the system they are on.
With that said, these two games definitely lived up to my expectations.
So these games aren't too different from the arcade style games that came after it. Standard hitting of the various symbols to the music, using the corresponding button.
However this game does not share the sliders, holds or multis that FT and MM have. Instead we have star flicks and W press. W press requires you to simply press on both face buttons of a particular direction (Triangle + up on the dpad) and stars requiring you to flick the screen when they appear.
In addition, these games have technical zones and chance time, the former giving you a score bonus for clearing a certain section of notes without missing any and the later giving you alternate visuals for the MV playing in the background, when you hit enough notes to activate the star that appears at the end of the section.

All of these mechanics make for a pretty engaging rhythm game, chance times and tech zones keep you on your feet, especially on extreme difficulty. Whilst I dont have much to say and W presses, I have more conflicted feelings on the star flicks.
On ps3 you flick with the joysticks since what else are you gonna flick with. But on vita they decided to make you flick with your fingers which isn't bad in it of itself, however on higher difficulties it can EASILY become a huge pain in the ass to do flick intensive sections with your thumbs.

That being said, they gave the option to use the sticks on the vita in F2nd so my frustration only really applies to F and honestly its not the worst thing in the world.
Overall I like how this game plays and it rarely feels as overwhelming as MM does at times.
With that out of the way, there are a couple of things you can do other than play the rhythm games. You have edit mode, the Diva room and the ar camera thing. I haven't used edit mode much at all so I'll mostly be talking about the last two.

Similar to the top screen in the main menu of Project Mirai, you can interact with and see your beloved vocaloid doing random stuff in their rooms. You're able to decorate the rooms, give them gifts, pet them, play patty cakes with them and watch them sleep of you're into that kinda thing. I'll admit I prefer Mirai's take on this soley because of the chibis but F and F2nd provide a lot more customization, which I think is cool.

Next we got the AR camera mode which lets you take pictures with the characters on the forefront. Unlike Mirai, you dont need any cards for it to function so you can enjoy whether you have them or not. I would definitely take advantage of this if I were able to but I've had some fun just using it in my room.

Now, all that's left for me to talk about is the song lists for both games and how they compare to each other. So F has a total of 38 songs including dlc and F2nd has 42 also including dlc. F has completely original songs and F2nd is a mix of new and old songs remastered from the og psp games.
That being said I can appreciate F for having introduced a whole list worth of new songs to the series in addition to a few new dlc tracks. F2nd on the otherhand, I wanna say that overall it has the better songs even if some are derived from the older games, especially since a lot of the song choices are reeeeeeeeeeeally goddamn good but I wont gush about them here. Not downplaying F's song list but F2nd really went all out with its song choices. My only gripe with F2nd is that all the dlc is from the older games, I would've liked some new songs included like in F but ultimately having old songs remastered is still pretty neat.
I guess I'll end this off by saying these games are really good and honestly a must have if you own a vita and like rhythm games or Miku in general. Also my favourite song to play is Suki Kirai by a country mile, it makes me vomit rainbows.
